The Bedrooms

The Retreat has three bedrooms, each named after a visiting native bird, Korimako (Bellbird), Kotare (Kingfisher) and Kahu (Australasian Harrier Hawk). All Rooms have a north facing deck with stunning estuary and garden outlook.

Our bedrooms are intimately sized, with a sitting space and ensuite bathroom. All rooms feature under floor heating, walls lined with wool insulation and luggage storage. Bathrooms feature high pressure showers, heated towel rails, mirror demisters, hairdryer and luxury toiletries.

Kahu Room

The Kahu or Australasian Harrier Hawk, is a protected native bird. You will regularly see Kahu gliding over the retreat hunting their prey around the pastured hills and soaring high on the thermals.
The Kahu room is an end corner room of the west wing, facing north and west with wrap around windows and French doors opening onto a deck with stunning views over the inlet. It features a queen bed and ensuite with shower, vanity and toilet.

Kotare Room

The Kotare or Kingfisher is a smaller bird with a strong beak and possesses brilliant greenish blue colouring. A protected native bird, you will see the Kotare perching on driftwood and feeding on small crabs.

The Kotare room is adjacent to the Kahu room in the west wing with French doors opening onto the deck offering sweeping views over the inlet. It features a queen and ensuite with shower, vanity and toilet. A foldout single bed can be added for a third person.

Korimako Room

The Korimako or Bellbird is the spirit bird of the Māori people. Acknowledged as the message carrier to and from the gods, the Korimako is a protected endemic bird, renowned for its beautiful bell notes and dawn song.

The Korimako room sits at the easterly end of main building. With doors opening out on to the courtyard and another door opening onto a north-facing deck, allowing access to all day sun. A king bed with the optional addition of a fold out single bed, make it suitable for up to three people.
